Know how you function?

People who succeed make it a personal objective to grow in the process. Self development takes time and being clear about who you are and how you act in everyday situations can empower you to do the right thing much of the time. Here’re are some standard processes you must manage well. Aim understand the way you;

THINK: The biggest mistake you can make is to turn your mind into a dumping ground for negativity. The way you think is one of the most powerful tools available to you. It helps you positively focus and reframe your thoughts. It can also be where you can imprison yourself with a victim mentality so think about what you think!

SPEAK: Some talk and people are blessed, others do and tempers run high. Let what comes out of your mouth be positive, measured and encouraging. There’s nothing to be gained from ‘speaking’ your mind’ anyhow, rubbing people the wrong way or having people tune you out every time you start to speak.

LEARN: The ability to learn fast is a basic requirement for today’s workplace. People learn differently and knowing your style helps you to imbibe knowledge quickly. If your organisation can’t afford to send you for a workshop but prepared to teach you on the job, be open to that learning.

TEACH : Part of being successful is not only learning from others but teaching others too. Don’t try to teach others based on the way you like to be taught. Some like to be taught step by step, others by trial and error. Be a coach to the people around you and use your own performance to teach by example.

APPRECIATE: You can’t afford to be jealous of other people’s achievement. It’ll take you down in the long run. Show people that you value them. Appreciation is an important part of workplace etiquette so if you’re good at it this is as good a time as any to skill up. Notice when people are trying to please you and acknowledge the effort. Everyone responds to appreciation so be generous with it.

QUESTION: Achievers have opinions, they speak up, they find solution and question in a smart manner the way things are done. A curious mind is a good thing; but translating that into intelligent questioning is skill that can be learnt. People don’t like to be challenged so learn to question in a way that does not provoke but brings clarity and insight and acknowledges the views of others.

CONNECT: Have a sense of personality so that you don’t lose yourself in trying to please everyone. Connecting isn’t a matter of being the life of the party or aiming to be everybody’s friend. Connecting is being aware of what makes your colleagues tick so that you can engage effectively and relate in a way that is meaningful to them.

Now take action: Think. How do you learn best?
